Detached Villa in Benahavís

€4,990,000

Details

Located atop the hills of Benahavís, in the serene Montemayor Valley, the Cuatro House boasts a breathtaking view of the stunning southern Mediterranean landscape. The project involves working on an inclined plot of land, with over twelve metres of elevation difference and a trapezoidal design featuring gently curved edges due to the urbanisation of the mountainous region.

We propose a home that integrates, respects, and emulates the landscape. During our initial visit, we identified that the panoramic views of this stunning natural location should be the focal point of our intervention. We recognized the importance of the building assimilating into its topography, becoming enveloped by it, and relinquishing any sense of self-importance.

We present a residence that is formed by a series of intersecting circles that carve into the steep incline of the hill on which it stands; these elements are integrated into the structure and are enlisted in the unique curved generatrix of the boundary that provides access to the property. The radial modulation tames and terraces the rugged topography; each arc-shaped segment shapes the internal spaces of the house, and reveals successive views to particular portions of the surrounding landscape. Walking through the dwelling reveals the sequence of landscape fragments.

The house’s entrance is vertical, descending below the urban level, with only a small visor rising above it. This visor serves as the glass vestibule, providing access to the complex’s interior, which includes parking for three vehicles. The heart of the house is reached through a core of unadorned stairs and a panoramic elevator. On one side, a fissure of light reveals the geological makeup of the environment, while on the other side, the astounding panorama of Montemayor Valley awaits. Our abode sits between the two, akin to a fresh geological layer.

The construction of the house incorporates concrete fused with the earth of the locale, metaphorically capturing the essence of the natural setting and solidifying time in a novel composition; this time, architectural. In this manner, the Cuatro House transforms into the chronicle of the location; a self-aware acknowledgement of the fundamental essence of the Montemayor valley.
